HAROPA PORT Secures €6.1 Million in EU Funding to Advance Electrification Along the Seine Corridor

HAROPA PORT has been awarded €6.1 million in European Union funding to accelerate the electrification of maritime and river terminals along the Seine axis. The support comes through the Alternative Fuels Infrastructure Facility (AFIF), an EU program launched in 2022 to promote low-carbon infrastructure across the Trans-European Transport Network (TEN-T). The port authority’s €21.4 million project was among those selected in the latest funding round, positioning HAROPA PORT as a leading European port in shore-power development.

The funding will support four major initiatives: the first phase of Port 2000 electrification in Le Havre; new electricity supply terminals for passenger and river cruise transport in Paris; and, in Rouen, the installation of five freight power terminals as well as additional shore-power connections for river cruise vessels.

By expanding clean power infrastructure across Le Havre, Rouen, and Paris, HAROPA PORT aims to enable more freight and cruise vessels to plug into shore power and significantly cut emissions during port stays. The effort strengthens the Seine corridor’s role as one of Europe’s most active regions in the transition toward greener transport and supports HAROPA PORT’s ambition to lead the continent’s port decarbonization efforts.
