IAG Cargo Expands Cold Chain Capabilities with Approval of SkyCell 1500X Containers
IAG Cargo, the cargo division of International Airlines Group (IAG), has strengthened its temperature-controlled shipping capabilities with the approval of SkyCell’s 1500X series containers for use across its global network.
The addition of the advanced SkyCell 1500X series marks a significant step forward for IAG Cargo’s Constant Climate service, enhancing its ability to transport temperature-sensitive pharmaceuticals such as vaccines and biologics safely and sustainably.
Engineered for reliability, the SkyCell 1500X containers provide up to 270 hours of autonomous temperature control, with extended performance when used in cold rooms or reefer trucks. This ensures continuous protection for valuable cargo, even under extreme weather conditions or unexpected delays.
Jordan Kohlbeck, Head of Pharmaceutical at IAG Cargo, commented:
“IAG Cargo’s approval of SkyCell containers was achieved through extensive collaboration and cross-functional teamwork within our organisation.
“The pharmaceutical industry demands innovative, sustainable solutions they can rely on, and that’s exactly what we are focused on. The addition of SkyCell enables us to offer customers access to a full suite of approved temperature-controlled packaging solutions that meet the highest of standards.”
Sustainability is also central to the design. The 1500X series reduces CO₂ emissions by up to 50% per shipment, thanks to its lightweight, reusable, and repairable construction. The units are also self-charging within cold-chain environments, further enhancing efficiency and environmental performance.
Operating from major hubs in London, Madrid, Dublin, and Barcelona, IAG Cargo connects customers to six continents, offering a seamless global network for the movement of critical life-science and pharmaceutical goods.
