Ringnes Taps Swisslog for Major Automation Upgrade at Gjelleråsen Brewery

Ringnes has selected automation specialist Swisslog to deliver a next-generation warehouse solution as part of a major expansion at the company’s main brewery in Gjelleråsen, just outside Oslo. The investment comes as the beverage producer increases capacity and undertakes a comprehensive modernisation of its facilities.

“Swisslog will deliver a comprehensive solution that will ensure increased utilization of warehouse capacity and increase the automation of the flow of goods at the facility. Through constructive dialogue so far, we have jointly developed what will be smart and efficient solutions for our warehouse,” says Astrid Palmer Omang, Project Director at Ringnes. “Throughout the tender process, Swisslog has demonstrated a good understanding of our needs. This bodes well for our continued collaboration with installation and operation.”

The new automation setup will span three core areas:

  • Dispatch and Storage: A PowerStore pallet shuttle system, ProMove conveyors, automated guided vehicles (AGVs) and Swisslog’s SynQ software will be installed to optimise product handling and outbound operations.

  • Inbound Handling: A dedicated system will be introduced to manage the receipt and processing of production materials, improving efficiency and accuracy in incoming logistics.

  • Block Storage and Dispatch Integration: ProMove conveyors and AGVs will be linked with the brewery’s two existing high-bay warehouses to support block storage and streamline dispatch processes.

Swisslog’s SynQ software, working in combination with Kollmorgen systems, will manage all material flows to ensure smooth and integrated warehouse operations.

“We are proud to announce our collaboration with Ringnes on a groundbreaking project that aims to transform logistics operations at Gjelleråsen,” says Johan Kristofferson, MD Swisslog Nordic. “Together, we’ve developed a cutting edge, comprehensive solution that seamlessly integrates advanced automation technology with practical functionality – unlocking new levels of storage capacity and streamlining the flow of goods.”

Construction work at the site has already begun. Swisslog is expected to start installing the new warehouse system in November 2025, with the upgraded facility slated for completion in the first half of 2027.
