Swisslog Partners with Bünting Group to Launch State-of-the-Art Fresh Goods Warehouse in Germany

The Bünting Group, one of Germany’s largest and most innovative retail companies, has officially broken ground on a new, cutting-edge fresh goods warehouse. The groundbreaking ceremony took place today in Nortmoor, marking the beginning of a project aimed at transforming the company’s supply chain operations. In collaboration with Swisslog, a global leader in intralogistics and automation technology, the new facility will span 6,500 square meters and is slated for completion in the first quarter of 2027.

Designed with automation and efficiency at its core, the warehouse will feature a fully automated shuttle system, capable of managing 34,500 small-load storage locations. The system is engineered for maximum storage density while offering exceptional flexibility to accommodate future growth. With advanced conveyor and refrigeration systems, the facility will streamline goods movement, reduce manual handling, and ensure the highest standards of temperature control for perishable goods, maintaining temperatures between 0 and 2 degrees Celsius.

“Together with Bünting, we are bringing technology exactly where it creates the greatest value: into the heart of fresh logistics,” says Sven Borghoff, Vice President Sales – Integrated Solutions EMEA Central, Swisslog. “From the very beginning, our collaboration has been defined by clear goals, consulting expertise, open dialogue, and mutual trust – that’s what makes this project special.”

Swisslog’s SynQ Warehouse Control System (WCS) will manage the entire facility, ensuring seamless integration and real-time tracking of operations. The SynQ WCS will connect all systems, optimizing goods movement, inventory management, and delivery processes, and providing transparency and reliability throughout the entire operation.

In addition to its technological advancements, the project will also have a positive impact on the regional labor market. The new warehouse is expected to create up to 14 new jobs upon its opening, with the potential for additional positions as the facility grows and expands.

“With this construction project, the Bünting Group is achieving another milestone in improving its logistics structures,” says Helge-Christian Eilers, Managing Director of Bünting SCM/Logistics. A centrally managed logistics system, including distribution and store supply, creates a future-ready solution.

This high-tech warehouse marks a significant step forward for Bünting, reinforcing its commitment to innovation while contributing to the local economy in Nortmoor. With its advanced capabilities and energy-efficient design, the new facility will not only enhance Bünting’s operational performance but also set a new standard for freshness and sustainability in the retail industry.
