Palletline and Auditel Launch Data-Driven Carbon Reduction Programme
Palletline, the UK’s leading palletised freight distribution network, has strengthened its sustainability efforts with Auditel by launching a network-wide data-led carbon reduction programme. The initiative aims to achieve net carbon neutrality across all 97 member hubs and operations – a first in the UK pallet network sector.
Building on a methodology developed earlier this year, Palletline’s independently verified 2022 carbon footprint report recorded 102,162 tCO₂e, or 0.0239 tCO₂e per pallet, with fleet fuel emissions representing over 95% of the total. The next phase will leverage real-time data tracking and comprehensive Scope 1, 2, and 3 reporting to provide verified CO₂ footprints per pallet and enable actionable reduction strategies.
The programme is structured around three strategic pillars: capital projects such as EV charging infrastructure and solar generation, greener procurement practices, and behavioural and process change to embed carbon-conscious practices across the network. Palletline has already cut energy consumption per pallet by 34% since 2018 and reduced operational emissions through electric forklifts, smart lighting, and a multi-hub model that prevents over 7,500 tonnes of CO₂ annually.
Speaking about the programme, Harpreet Sohal, Director of Business Information at Palletline, said: “Our partnership with Auditel is built on evidence, not estimates. By combining verified data with practical decarbonisation strategies, we’re creating a clear, credible route to net carbon neutrality – not just at our hubs, but across the entire network. This programme will empower every member and customer to make informed, sustainable choices.”
David McDonald, Carbon Specialist at Auditel, added: “Palletline’s proactive and data-driven approach sets a new benchmark for the logistics industry. By integrating carbon reduction into governance, procurement and culture, the business is proving that achieving Net Zero doesn’t have to cost the earth. Through our combined carbon and cost management expertise, we’re helping Palletline make sustainability both achievable and financially sustainable.”
Future efforts will focus on fleet decarbonisation, including EV and hydrogen tractor units, supported by high-capacity superchargers at key hubs, alongside waste reduction and recycling initiatives. Together, Palletline and Auditel are pioneering a verifiable, data-driven approach to low-carbon logistics, setting a new benchmark for sustainability in the sector.
