BCT Gdynia Orders Eight Hybrid Konecranes RTGs, Including Company’s 3,000th Unit

Baltic Container Terminal (BCT) in Gdynia, Poland, has placed an order for eight hybrid Rubber-Tired Gantry (RTG) cranes from Konecranes, marking a significant milestone with the company’s 3,000th RTG. The contract was finalized in Q2 2025.

Owned by global terminal operator ICTSI, BCT Gdynia is a key container hub in the Baltic Sea region. This order represents the terminal’s first investment in Konecranes RTGs. Each crane features a hybrid drive, combining advanced battery technology with a compact diesel genset, reducing fuel consumption and emissions compared to conventional diesel RTGs. The project is supported by the European Union’s NextGenerationEU program under Poland’s National Recovery Plan.

“We chose the Konecranes RTGs because they offer the best combination of performance and lower emissions. They met our requirements in terms of the technical solution, warranty, value for the investment and delivery time. This investment fits perfectly with our goal of improving handling capacity while reducing our environmental footprint,” says Maciej Maliszewski, Technical Director at BCT.

The cranes are equipped with advanced Smart Features to boost terminal safety and efficiency, including Stack Collision Prevention, Auto-TOS Reporting, and Auto-Steering. They will be manufactured locally in Poland through Konecranes’ established network.

“More than 225 Konecranes hybrid RTGs are now in operation worldwide, with this latest order reflecting their growing popularity in Europe, too. The fact that our 3,000th RTG will be built in Poland for BCT makes this delivery a milestone. Our manufacturing network in Poland has been a fundamental part of our global success with RTGs,” says Heikki Kreku, Director of RTGs, Port Solutions, Konecranes.

This delivery is part of Konecranes’ Ecolifting initiative, which aims to maximize the environmental benefits of its products while helping customers reduce their carbon footprints. Through hybrid and fully electrified solutions, Konecranes continues to promote eco-efficient material handling and decarbonization.

With a strong focus on customer needs, innovation, and continuous improvement, Konecranes remains a leader in the material handling industry, leveraging digitalization and technology to make material flows safer, more efficient, and environmentally responsible.
