Contship joins DCSA+ to advance digital standards in container shipping
Contship has become the first terminal operator to join DCSA+, the partnership programme launched by the Digital Container Shipping Association (DCSA) to accelerate the adoption of digital standards across the containerized transport ecosystem.
DCSA is a non-profit organisation focused on driving the digital transformation of container shipping through open standards and cross-industry collaboration. With the introduction of DCSA+, the association is expanding its collaborative model beyond ocean carriers to include non-carrier stakeholders such as terminal operators, technology providers, shippers, freight forwarders and feeder operators.
Through its participation in DCSA+, Contship will contribute to the development of shared digital standards designed to reduce fragmentation in data exchange and enhance the reliability of shipping services. The initiative aims to improve transparency, efficiency and coordination across global supply chains.
“As an operator of multiple container terminals and inland hubs across the Mediterranean and Europe, we sit as the interface between shipping companies, logistics service providers, and cargo owners. Joining DCSA+ marks an important milestone in our digital transformation journey, with a clear focus on operational efficiency. Data consistency is a fundamental prerequisite for ensuring reliable operations, and we want to contribute to the definition of standards that effectively integrate and upgrade terminal activities with those of our customers and partners. Starting with the information that supports port calls and planning, we will leverage our experience to ensure practical standards that can be implemented and produce measurable results on a large scale” said Renato Dessì, Chief Transformation & Technology Officer at Contship.
Contship’s involvement will focus on aligning terminal operations with internationally recognised standards, particularly in areas such as vessel arrival and berth planning, container status updates, port call optimisation and end-to-end visibility throughout the container journey. These efforts are expected to support greater terminal efficiency, improved planning accuracy and closer day-to-day collaboration with shipping lines.
“DCSA+ aims to develop standards for the entire container transport ecosystem. With the entry of terminal operators such as Contship into the process, we ensure that these entities also become key players, contributing their operational and practical perspective, raising the quality of standards, and accelerating their adoption throughout the entire container journey” added Mariana Bock-Losada, Chief Growth Officer at DCSA.
By joining DCSA+, Contship further strengthens its strategic role within the national logistics system and the Mediterranean region, supporting the competitiveness and digital interoperability of global container supply chains.
