FM Logistic Launches New Intermodal Route Linking Poland and Northern France

FM Logistic has announced the launch of a new intermodal connection between Krzewie, Poland, and Dourges, France. This route combines rail and road transport to facilitate regular deliveries to northern France and the Paris region, reflecting the company’s commitment to sustainable logistics solutions.

Intermodal transport is gaining traction across Europe due to several challenges facing the logistics industry, including driver shortages, road congestion, and tightening sustainability regulations. FM Logistic estimates that each journey on the Krzewie–Dourges route reduces CO₂ emissions by approximately 1.8 tonnes, representing a 68% cut compared to road-only transport.

This new service expands FM Logistic’s growing portfolio of intermodal routes, which already includes connections between Poland and countries such as Germany, the Netherlands, Spain, Portugal, and the United Kingdom, as well as involvement in the Belt and Road Initiative. The company also operates daily rail services within France, linking warehouses in Valenton and Avignon with trains traveling up to 140 km/h, offering faster alternatives to traditional road transport.

Intermodal transport is our solution to two key challenges facing the industry: the need to reduce the carbon footprint and the growing difficulties in obtaining drivers and vehicles. By combining rail and road transport, not only do we significantly reduce CO₂ emissions, but also provide continuity of supply in the face of limited capacity in the market. Additionally, with our Friday departures from Poland, we can deliver to France at the beginning of the week – a solution hardly achievable by road transport, yet often expected by our customers – emphasises Łukasz Łasa, Intermodal Transport Manager at FM Logistic.

Intermodal transport serves a wide range of industries, from manufacturing and cosmetics to retail and pharmaceuticals. Its effectiveness depends on shipment frequency, destination, and terminal accessibility, with higher volumes and longer distances improving efficiency.

“From the clients’ standpoint, additional services such as load consolidation, customs clearance, contract logistics, and even full supply chain management also matter. At FM Logistic, we can provide all these components as a package, which allows for increased operational and cost efficiency” – explains Łukasz Łasa.

With increasing emission costs and regulatory pressure on road transport, FM Logistic’s introduction of the Krzewie–Dourges route underscores the growing importance of intermodal solutions in European logistics strategies moving forward.
