Konecranes Installs Six Next-Generation S-Series Cranes at Contibelt’s Austrian Plant

Konecranes has successfully completed the delivery and installation of six state-of-the-art S-series overhead cranes for Contibelt Band Systeme GmbH at its manufacturing facility in Stockerau, Austria. The cranes will play a central role in handling heavy steel coils used in the production of Contibelt’s high-performance steel belts for conveyor systems.

The new equipment includes six cranes with lifting capacities ranging from 5 to 10 tons. Each production runway accommodates two cranes working in tandem, with synchronized lifting controls designed for the safe and precise movement of steel coils through different stages of manufacturing.

To improve safety, efficiency, and productivity, the cranes are equipped with advanced features including:

  • Anti-collision systems to prevent contact between cranes
  • Tandem lifting functionality for coordinated operations
  • Variable frequency drives for smooth and controlled movement
  • Load positioning controls for accurate coil placement onto processing equipment

“We’ve had a strong working relationship with Konecranes for many years. Some of our cranes had already far exceeded their expected service life. Additionally, we needed more modern control systems and higher load capacities. That’s why we invited several crane manufacturers to develop a solution that would meet our increased requirements without requiring any changes to the building. Only Konecranes was able to deliver. We’re very satisfied with the solution and with how the work was carried out,” said Mario Mihaljevic, Sales Manager, Contibelt Austria.

“This project continues a long-standing relationship between Konecranes and Contibelt, where we previously delivered cranes for their material handling in 2017. These new cranes are tailored to meet their current production demands with enhanced safety, control, and operational efficiency,” said Director Markus Köcher, IC, South East Europe, Konecranes.

The investment highlights Konecranes’ position as a global leader in material handling, driven by customer focus, innovation, and continuous improvement. Through advanced technologies and digitalization, the company aims to make industrial operations safer, more efficient, and increasingly sustainable—supporting decarbonization and circularity across the industry.
