NORD Partners with KNAPP for AeroBot Warehouse System
NORD Electronic Drivesystems is set to break new ground in warehouse automation with the installation of the country’s first AeroBot robotic warehouse system, developed by Austrian technology company KNAPP. The milestone project marks a major step in the expansion of NORD’s production and logistics facilities in Aurich, with the system scheduled to go live in the second half of 2026.
The AeroBot system will serve as the centerpiece of NORD’s newly expanded site, designed to streamline the storage and retrieval of electronic components for frequency converters. Once operational, the fully automated facility will feature 29 storage levels, 25,500 storage locations, quadruple-deep racking, and seamless integration with six picking stations and two goods-in workstations. Control of the system will be managed by KNAPP’s KiSoft One logistics software, which links directly to NORD’s SAP® EWM system.
The expansion will more than double NORD’s production footprint from 7,500 to 20,000 square meters, enabling the company to boost its annual production capacity to 400,000 frequency converters. Built with scalability in mind, the system can later be expanded with Open Shuttle autonomous mobile robots. Safety has also been factored into the design, with fire doors incorporated into all import and export conveyors due to the hypoxic storage environment.
This project deepens the long-standing partnership between NORD and KNAPP. The two companies enjoy a unique dual relationship: NORD supplies drive technology for KNAPP’s warehouse systems, while also relying on KNAPP’s automation solutions, including a shuttle storage system already in use at NORD’s Bargteheide site since 2021.
By becoming the first company in Germany to adopt AeroBot technology, NORD is reinforcing both its innovative edge and its collaboration with KNAPP, setting the stage for sustained growth in the years ahead.
