Oakland International, a leader in sustainable supply chain solutions, is experiencing continued growth, underpinned by the success of its state-of-the-art 161,000 sq. ft multi-temperature facility in Knottingley, West Yorkshire.
Strategically positioned at the junction of the M62 and A1(M), the Knottingley hub offers unrivalled access to regional markets across the North of England, Scotland, and the Midlands, with rapid connections to London, the South, major seaports, and key air freight hubs—all within a 4.5-hour drive time. This central location makes it an ideal gateway for businesses serving both domestic and international markets.
Built to support growth across retail, manufacturing, and foodservice sectors, the facility offers capacity for over 20,000 pallets across chilled, frozen, and ambient storage. It features 16 dock-level loading bays and parking for 50 trailers, ensuring efficient handling and rapid throughput for time-sensitive operations.
The site reflects Oakland’s strong commitment to sustainability and operational excellence. It boasts a top-tier BREEAM ‘Excellent’ rating and an EPC ‘A’ energy classification, alongside modern office and welfare facilities that promote a safe, positive, and inclusive working environment.
In a major endorsement of its standards, Knottingley secured BRCGS ‘AA’ grade certification for Storage and Distribution in its very first audit—a significant achievement that confirms Oakland’s position among the few operators in the sector to hold this level of accreditation across all UK and Ireland depots.
Oakland International Group CEO Shaun Foley commented: “The BRCGS (Brand Reputation Compliance Global Standard) is recognised internationally as the benchmark for excellence in storage and distribution. To be awarded the ‘AA’ rating affirms that Oakland International’s operational processes, safety protocols and quality management systems are delivering to world-class standards.”
As part of Oakland’s growing national infrastructure, Knottingley joins a network of established depots in Redditch, Corby, Bardon, and Dublin. The expansion provides essential headroom for customers amid rising demand in chilled, frozen, and ambient categories. Shaun added: “Our investment in Yorkshire is all about supporting the growth ambitions of our customers. This facility allows us to take new projects to scale quickly, provide national coverage with confidence, and deliver the levels of assurance that retailers and brand owners’ demand. The BRCGS AA rating underlines that this is a site built on quality, safety and trust.”
Founded nearly 30 years ago, Oakland International has become a trusted partner across contract packing, case consolidation, direct-to-consumer fulfilment, and distress load management. The latter—an award-winning service—prevents millions of items from going to waste each year, aligning with the company’s mission to combat food waste and improve environmental outcomes.
A Certified B Corporation, Oakland International is independently recognised for its environmental and social performance. The company is committed to achieving net-zero emissions across its operations, backed by significant investment in sustainable technologies and operational practices.
Shaun concluded: “From quality and compliance through to sustainability and innovation, Knottingley is built around supporting growth, for our customers, for our team, and for the wider industry.”
Looking ahead, the Knottingley facility not only increases Oakland’s national capacity but also reinforces its long-term commitment to innovation, regional employment, and sustainable growth—cementing Yorkshire as a central hub in the company’s strategic roadmap.
