Kuehne+Nagel Opens New Healthcare Logistics Centre at Frankfurt Airport
Kuehne+Nagel has opened a 3,505-square-metre healthcare logistics centre at Frankfurt Airport, expanding its capacity to handle temperature-sensitive pharmaceutical and healthcare products and strengthening its position in the global healthcare supply chain.
Located in Frankfurt Airport’s Cargo City South, the new facility is designed to support pharmaceutical manufacturers in transporting critical products through one of Europe’s leading air cargo hubs. The investment comes amid growing demand for reliable, temperature-controlled logistics services worldwide.
The opening builds on Kuehne+Nagel’s recent expansion of its healthcare logistics operations in Frankfurt. Earlier this year, the airport was added to Inspire, the company’s Boeing 747-8F freighter network, while the Frankfurt–Atlanta Cool Corridor was launched to support temperature-sensitive healthcare shipments between the two locations.
Situated within a Kuehne+Nagel-owned 13,000-square-metre complex, the new HealthChain-certified centre offers direct tarmac access and rapid connections to cargo handling areas, helping reduce transit times and limit product exposure during transfers.
The facility operates in a Good Distribution Practice (GDP)-compliant environment and provides approximately 2,500 square metres of controlled room temperature storage, maintained between +15°C and +25°C, alongside more than 500 square metres of cold-chain storage at +2°C to +8°C. Ultra-low temperature freezers capable of reaching -70°C are also available, complemented by temperature-controlled staging areas and specialised pharmaceutical truck handling facilities.
“Frankfurt is an important gateway for healthcare logistics. With this investment, we are expanding the specialised infrastructure needed to support the growing movement of temperature-sensitive medicines worldwide. Together with our recent healthcare developments in Frankfurt, the new centre provides customers with greater reliability, connectivity, and control across global supply chains,” says Martin Schaefer, SVP Air Logistics Germany at Kuehne+Nagel.
The centre forms part of Kuehne+Nagel’s global network of more than 270 HealthChain-certified locations, providing healthcare customers with consistent quality standards and specialised handling capabilities across key trade lanes.
The investment further reinforces Frankfurt’s role as a strategic gateway for pharmaceutical logistics, supporting the movement of temperature-sensitive products to international markets.
