ACTS and DB Cargo launch intermodal construction logistics service in Switzerland
ACTS AG, DB Cargo Full Load Solutions (FLS) Switzerland and DB Cargo Switzerland have launched a regular intermodal freight service between Luterbach in Solothurn and Ticino, combining rail and road transport to support construction and waste logistics.
Operating since mid-August, the service transports gravel and sand to an asphalt producer in Ticino, while returning trains carry excavated material from construction sites to the Vigier landfill site in Flumenthal, near Solothurn.
The transport concept uses the ACTS roll-off container system, allowing containers to be transferred horizontally between road vehicles and rail wagons. This enables construction sites and production facilities without direct rail access to benefit from intermodal transport.
By combining outbound and return cargo flows, the partners aim to improve transport efficiency, maximise capacity utilisation and reduce empty journeys. At least one round trip per week is planned, with additional services possible as volumes increase.
Under the partnership, ACTS manages customer relationships and road transport, DB Cargo FLS oversees transport planning and coordination, while DB Cargo Switzerland provides rail traction.
The companies are also exploring further routes and customer projects across Switzerland, with the aim of expanding sustainable rail-based logistics solutions for the construction industry.
